NetHulk

NetHulk is turn-based network game for Win XP (it should work on other Windows platforms but I haven't tested it) that plays very similarly to the old Space Hulk board game by Games Workshop. Marines explore a derelict spaceship, attempting to complete various mission objectives. The Aliens, on the other hand, have but one mission objective: kill, kill, kill. Of course, if that's not enough fun, six other factions-- the traitor Chaos Marines, the fierce Valkyries, the bloodthirsty Orks, the crafty Hunters, the undying Ancients, and the mysterious Invaders join the fray.

This game is designed for play over the Internet (or a LAN that supports TCP) only. There is also a hotseat mode, just in case anyone wants to play like that, but it may also prove useful for testing out new maps and other features without having to hook up over the network. There is no option for computer-controlled opponents or PBEM (play by e-mail) play at present.

I started this project because, quite simply, there weren't any decent network Space Hulk games out there. Sulk never had network support implemented, and the Internet play in QSpaceHulk was still quite buggy when the project seems to have died.

The rules are somewhat of a hybrid. I confess I simply did what I liked best. Though the game is ostensibly more based upon the second edition, most of the expansion material has been adapted from first edition sources and the game also now features the very interesting element that only first edition had of the Marine being able to interrupt the other player's turn.

The game normally runs in a DirectX full screen mode, at 640x480. Some laptop display drivers may not be able to handle this-- you could always try playing it in a windowed mode. If you have this problem, please tell me. Also, if you are sending a bug report, please include the "log.txt" file that is created in your NetHulk directory when the game runs.
